Since our founding by Judd Brown and Steve McMahon in 1983, JBD has successfully completed an impressive array of design projects for the hospitality industry. Our staff of more than 15 design professionals has created a multitude of award-winning interior and exterior concepts throughout the world. Together with our sister-architectural-firm, Jefferson Group Architects, Judd Brown Designs continues to provide highly creative and complete design solutions for the nation's restaurants, private clubs, hotels and casinos.

 

Judd Brown, A.S.I.D., NCIDQ

President, Judd Brown Designs, Inc.

Judd founded JBD in 1983 after working as the head of design for Jan Companies' 62-unit restaurant chain. Brown is a graduate of the architecture department at Arizona State University, and has Judd Brown Design Inc. design award. Interior Design Magazine has also recognized Brown's work in 11 of the past 13 years as Design Giant. Brown's award winning and revenue generating designs come as the result of a solid academic foundation and years of design work, combined with significant experience in the field of restaurant management where he developed a true appreciation for the ergonomic and economic implications of restaurant design.

    Judd Brown Design, Founder & President - 1983 to Present

    Mr. Brown founded JBD in 1983 to provide design and consulting services for hospitality
    facilities. Since it's founding, Mr. Brown has developed expertise in the hospitality and club   
    industries placing him among the nation's most notable experts in the field.  Having primary
    responsibility for private clubs, restaurants and luxury residential projects ranging from under
    $100,000 to over $13,000,000, he has been able to instill confidence in his clients resulting from his
    caring, hands on, professional approach to the design and consulting process.

    Jan Companies, Construction and Design- 1980 to 1983

    Mr. Brown served as Design Director for company owned operations, including 58 quick serve  
    restaurants, country clubs and corporate office facilities.

    Benjamin's Restaurant, General Manager- 1977 to 1980

    Responsible for overall restaurant and banquet facility operations generating annual sales of
    $5,000,000 along with design and construction supervision of $2,500,000 in facility renovations.

 

 

Steven T. McMahon, CSI/CDT

Vice President, JBD and JGA

Thirteen years after co-founding JBD in 1983, Mr. McMahon began splitting his time with Jefferson Group Architects after its formation in 1996. Altogether, he has been Project Manager responsible for major projects in New York, New Jersey, Florida, and throughout New England. Since 1996, he has held and continues to hold the position of Vice President of Jefferson Group Architects, being actively involved as a Planner, Architectural Designer and Senior Budget Analyst as well as acting as Senior Project Executive on all Jefferson Group Architects' large scope projects.

    Judd Brown Design, Co-Founder & Vice President - 1983 to Present

    Mr. McMahon co-founded JBD with Judd Brown in 1983 after previously working
    with him at the Jan Companies.  Since then, he has taken responsibility as project
    executive for many of the firm's largest and most complicated projects.  With his
    Construction Specifications Institute certification, Mr. McMahon develops and/or
    reviews all project cost estimates and budgets and is responsible for the firm's
    overall scheduling and finances, while continuing to actively design many of the
    firm's most notable projects.

    Mr. McMahon's responsibilities included interior and architectural design for the
    company's chain of quick serve and casual restaurants, country clubs and

Mr. Jacques shares the role of Lead Architect and Senior Planner for JBD with that of Principal and Senior Architect for JBD's sister architectural firm, Jefferson Group Architects.  Mr. Jacques provides planning and architectural expertise and guidance for Club Master Plans and restaurant concepts as well as overall design and review.
